Work With Us

The SMART Lab welcomes collaboration with U.S. industry, national laboratories, universities, and government agencies in sustainable and smart manufacturing, advanced materials recycling, battery and polymer materials, sensing and instrumentation, AI/ML, digital-twin development, testing and characterization, and technology demonstration.

The lab is especially interested in collaborative projects that connect materials processing, manufacturing machines and systems, energy efficiency, process monitoring, data acquisition, modeling, testing, characterization, and product validation.

Testing and Characterization Services

The SMART Lab provides testing and characterization services for polymer, battery, electrochemical, recycled, and manufactured materials. Available capabilities include mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrochemical, rheological, tribological, morphological, moisture, melt-flow, and process-quality characterization.

Student Opportunities

Students at all levels with aligned research interests are encouraged to contact Siamak Farhad. Students should include a CV/resume and a brief summary of desired focus areas.

Research areas include:

  • sustainable and smart manufacturing
  • materials processing
  • energy efficiency
  • instrumentation
  • testing

  • characterization
  • modeling
  • data analysis
  • technology development
  • intersectional research of these topics
